DJI Mini 2 SE
The kit included the drone, remote control (smart phone needs to be attached), 3 batteries, a 3 battery charger, props, screwdriver, gimble cover, bag and props protector. The prop protector only comes with the Fly More pack it is really helpful stopping the propellers flaping around and getting damaged when being transported.
YouTube is a wonderful place to find videos to help set it up and get started flying the Mini 2 SE drone. I found the DJI videos less helpful especially when setting up a connection with the drone and some of the basic flight tutorials. Largely the whole setup procedure was fairly straight forward however. I downloaded the DJI Fly app from their website using an Android phone, which was easy and free. I didn't use the Play Store as the same app there said it was chargeable (but might not be).
The DJI Refresh care package was taken it had two options. One gives you 2 replacements should you damage or lose your drone in a year. Please note you can only have 1 replacement if your drone is lost. It doubles to 4 replacements including 2 replacements for a lost drone if you take out their 2 year plan. Check details before purchasing. Thankfully I haven't had to use this at the time of writing.
It is important before purchasing any drone that you understand the law on flying them. I'll be honest it took a little time for me to get my head around it. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) run a free course where on successful completion you get a Flyer Id which is needed to fly some categories of drones. Doing the course gives you all the knowledge needed to understand their rules better. I was able to make an educated choice and picked a drone that weighs less than 250g as it can be flown with less restrictions. There was a requirement to register as an operator with the CAA as my drone has a camera. I fly as a hobbyist and therefore insurance is optional, but by joining FPVUK a drone association I'm able to use their public and product liability insurance while flying. Check the CAA website for the latest rules.
After setting the drone up and linking it to my smart phone and remote control I was ready to fly. As a newby to the community I was a little nervous, but take-off, flight and landing were a lot easier than I thought. Soon the worry of losing the drone had gone and I got a little braver each time with the functions that I used. The return to home function worked really well especially when the battery was running low. I haven't had chance to use the quick shot features as yet, but looking forward to using them. There is no obstacle avoidance, which has not caused me any problems. There is an under carriage sensor which I think helps to detect the ground, it's height and switch off the props automatically when it has landed.
The drone responds well to the controller even when batteries are low. I've not experienced any interference affecting my ability to control the drone this is because it uses Optisync technology. Speaking of battery life, DJI give it 31 minutes, but I've had between 21 to 25 mins depending on the conditions. Buying the Fly More pack means the extra batteries do help, however for it's size I'm happy with the battery life. It's handled itself well in the wind and it does get windy up north!
Photography wise the gimble can be moved vertically from the remote and gives a stable looking image when using the video. Zoom is limited in comparison to more expensive versions. I found the x2 zoom when using the video really helpful. For me, the 12 MP camera and 2.7k video is ample for what I want to do, but photographers amateur or professionals might want to look at the specifications in further detail before purchasing.
